Moving from concern to action. Exactly one year ago, the 8th Vacancy Conference "Anyone at home? Ideas for half-empty single-family homes" took place in Kolbermoor. In presentations and excursions, the speakers explored various aspects of vacancy in rural regions, such as the history of single-family housing and the wealth of ideas from project examples. The conference generated great concern among all participants, but nothing happened for a year.

Kolbermoor City Marketing and Oberland Regional Development considered and decided to revisit the topic. Three municipalities were willing to take the initiative: Kolbermoor, Tuntenhausen, and Rohrdorf. Representatives from administration and politics, as well as the municipal building committees, were invited to the relaunch. The idea was to experience the strategic importance of this topic for the municipalities firsthand and to connect interested parties.
The basis was the simulation game "Leerstand" (Vacancy), developed specifically for this event by the intrestik office. 27 participants from the three communities, divided into three groups, placed themselves in the situation of a fictitious community over one evening. The goal of the game was to satisfy as many requests for housing as possible. Five perspectives were on the board and had to be reconciled. Where are there vacant properties in the community, which people live there, or do new building areas perhaps need to be designated? Can older single people be persuaded to make their homes, or parts of them, available to young families? What innovative ideas are there to support this redistribution of housing with social, structural, or legal measures?
In the concluding discussion, the shared feeling was: We must do something and we don't want to wait any longer! Approaches to action were presented to the entire group, prioritized, and the first meeting for the operational working group was set.
