Last year, the city of Munich established summer streets for the first time during the school holidays. The idea originally came from Stockholm and meant that selected streets belong to pedestrians and cyclists during the summer. The 25 district committees submitted their list of proposals to the city administration. 14 streets were chosen based on their best efforts, but some simply didn't find acceptance among the citizens. What a pity!
Our game about the Munich summer streets
How can we ensure that a street is accepted and that social life and alternative uses develop there? Our approach: We live in this city and rely on the concentrated knowledge of our neighborhood. To leverage this knowledge, dialogue is necessary. And because we found the subdued use of last year's summer streets so regrettable, we developed a card game. Our game stimulates discussion, structures the conversation, and is fun. Our goal: We want to work with politicians, the administration, and especially the community to identify summer streets and then entice the neighborhood outdoors throughout the holidays to enjoy the newly gained open space together, actively and carefree.
The Economic Affairs Department of the City of Munich believes in our project and supports our crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for its implementation. If you would like to help us realize our grassroots democratic project, or are perhaps already interested in our game, you can support us financially on the StartNext platform starting mid-April at the latest. You can also purchase the option to play our game and, if you like, attend a workshop.
We're counting on you to make the summer streets a success!
